Obituary of Von Lee Haller

Von left us peacefully February 21, at home in Orting surrounded by his loving family. Born in Puyallup April 9, 1949, Von graduated from Puyallup High School, Class of '67 and has maintained long standing friendships with many classmates. He attended Central Washington State College for a period of time, enjoyed those wild and crazy "hippy" days, returning to the Tacoma area to become a painter. He married his long-time friend Peggy and had a son, Kyle, in 1985. Von's happiest times were spent with his son, shooting hoops with friends, taking trips to Hawaii with best friend David, enjoying Sunday dinners with family in Orting and of course playing baseball, which he did through high school and for many summers on local rec teams…what a catcher he was and had an eye for the ball, posting more “walks” than anyone on the team! Von was an avid sports fan and often wore one of his Yankee or Husky hats, but his favorite sporting events were Kyle's baseball, soccer or football games. He enjoyed road trips to California, camping with friends locally and at Glacier and the Grand Canyon and riding his Norton or Harley motorcycles. He demonstrated his expertise at clam digging on regular trips to the ocean and at fishing from Westport and Point Defiance. He learned great gardening tips from his dad and loved to cook – fresh peppers and tomatoes became salsa, cucumber and asparagus were pickled to perfection! Preceded in death by his father George, he is survived by his son Kyle, mother Annabelle, brother Jim, sisters Georgiann (Tom) and Sherry (Bill), nine nieces and nephews and many more loving family and friends. "Uncle Von" had a special place in his heart for children and will be remembered for his teasing, fun and caring ways. Special thanks to Georgiann, Dave and Trudi for their loving, dedicated care and to David for being the truest friend one could ever hope for. A celebration of Von's life will be held February 28 from 1 to 4pm at McMillan Grange, 12707 State Rt. 162, Puyallup, WA.
