Obituary of Helen Virgie Duell

Helen Duell was born on May 19th 1910 in Mansfield Washington. She was the youngest of four children born to Thomas & Addie Wirt. Soon after Helen’s birth the family moved to Wenatchee where she and her siblings attended Wenatchee schools. She worked as a cashier at the Liberty Theatre in her teen years. She moved to Seattle, WA in the 40’s and worked as a catering secretary for the Edward Meany Hotel in the University District for over 20 years. Helen moved back to Wenatchee to take care of her elderly parents. She then worked as a service manager at the Cascadia Hotel until her retirement. Helen was married to Charles Duell who has preceded her in death. Charles was born July 18th 1905 in Mason City Iowa. Charlie was a railroad conductor on the Great Northern Railroad for over 45 yrs. After many happy years Charles passed away in Sept 1977. After living many years in Wenatchee, Helen moved to Puyallup to be closer to family. She was an active member in the United Methodist Church and Christian Women. She was a member of Emmanuel Shrine and Astral Chapter #75 order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Great Northern Railroad Retirement Association. She is proceeded in death by her husband; Charles Duell: Mother; Addie Wirt Herron and Father; Thomas Wirt: her Sister; Pauline Wren Schank: her brothers; Wayne Wirt & Howard Wirt. She leaves behind her nieces; Helen (Stuart) Kramlich, Rebecca (Russell) Colson, Shirley (Jerry) Whitbeck, Virgina (Arnie) Schwab and a nephew; Cecil Wren and many great nieces and nephews. She was the Matriarch of our family and a blessing to each of us. She will be deeply missed. Arrangements by Edwards Memorial 253-566-1008
