Obituary of Catherine Irene Lewtas

Cathy Lewtas was born August 17, 1942, in Tucson, AZ and ascended unto her Lord Jesus Christ at age 69 in Tacoma, WA from various medical conditions on October 19, 2011. Cathy was also known as Irene to many of her relatives. During her childhood she moved to various states with her parents, as her father was in the Air Force. She had three children from her first marriage. In San Diego she taught Sunday School classes at her church and also babysat. She was a Tupperware dealer for decades. On March 1, 1973, Cathy and David Lewtas met at the first meeting of the Divorce Lifeline group in Tacoma. Their first date was on March 24. They saw each other several times every week, and on July 3, 1973, they were married. She was a faithful and devoted member of Westgate Baptist Church at N. 18th & Pearl in Tacoma since April, 1974. She taught Sunday School classes until her multiple sclerosis limited those services. She had a heart for the church Missions and its outreach through their missionaries serving Jesus Christ in various countries. She also served faithfully for the church's local fellowship events during her entire membership. After her mid-30s she began suffering from multiple sclerosis, diabetes type 2, myo-fascial pain dysfunction syndrome, fibromyalgia, lymphedema in her lower legs, and other medical conditions. David developed extensive computer listings of her prescriptions, diseases and medical conditions, medical procedures by categories, and complete doctors information. They were updated as appropriate and copies given to the doctors periodically. The doctors and nurses appreciated the listings. In recent years the visitations to their medical community were treated as their main "social life activities" and they looked forward to their appointments and they were well received by them all. David also maintained medical appointment sheets on each medical doctor and medical therapist for updating the appointments and information, year by year. In spite of all her medical challenges she had a very sweet personality during her life. David had been extremely active in the Toastmasters communication and leadership organization when they met, and she continued to support him completely in his Toastmasters activities throughout their marriage. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 38 years, David Robert Lewtas of Tacoma, daughters Laura Troiani and Julie Davis, sisters Ava Lovett-Davis, Debbie Nelson, and Geneva Sherwood, brother Raymond Banzet, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Her memorial service will be November 5 at 2:00 pm at Westgate Baptist Church, 1801 N. Pearl St., Tacoma, WA 98406, with reception following in the church fellowship hall. Memorials may be given to the family. Arrangements by Edwards Memorial. 253-566-1008
