To Fujiko and Midori and Mari, What a wonderful and event-filled life Wayne had with the three of you. Wayne came into the lives of the Kleiner family many years ago when he was Director of the Tacoma YMCA. My dad Morris had a brother Simon, (outside the family, everybody knew him as Sam,) who had come to America from Poland in the early 1920's. During Uncle Simon's varied working career, he was employed at the Tacoma 'Y'. If I remember correctly, his job was to hand out shirts and shoes etc., from the locker room to the members and to be sure that these items came back to him.. It was here that he met Wayne. Wayne was very, very kind to my Uncle Simon, and Simon respected and loved Wayne. That's how I met Wayne and our family always remembered his kindlness to this short immigrant gentleman who spoke with an accent throughout his life. Our sympathy to all the Wayne Gardner family. Barbara and Herman Kleiner and Josephine Kleiner Heiman.

We extend our condolences to the Gardner family. May you always remember the great times with love and caring memories. Our life experiece started when I first met Mr. Gardner in l989. During the introduction, Mr Gardner stated, 'You may refer to me as 'Tom Selleck'. From that point I knew I was in the presence of a man with a great sence of humor. He really displayed a joy for life. He did everything with a big smile and don't forget those unforgetable jesters. Hands, feet, his whole body was always moving. 'Jack Benny' in a 'Tom Selleck' body, only shorter in statue, but more statuesque than any man I've ever known. I felt more honored and loved by Mr Gardner in January 2003 when I had my stroke than any person I've met. I'm in the hospital with many doctors examining me. To awaken only to hear a familiar voice - 'Whoa', it's 'Tom Selleck' at the foot of the bed doing what he does best- Reflexology (tickling my feet). Telling the doctors what to do for me. One doctor asked me who I was. I said, 'I'm one of the blessed guys in the world', have you met 'Mr Selleck' the short version? Carmen and I always looked forward to being in the presence of the Gardners. What a joy. It was a delight to have known you 'Tom Selleck'. We will always love you. God bless and family members keep those memories burning forever.

In 1981, Wayne officiated the first match I ever played as a member of the Then USVBA. I had the great fortune to know him and his son Cal within the cotext of the volleyball community. Wayne always treated the players on his courts with respect and kindness and he expected sportsmanship and effort in return. It was my pleasure to see him on the stand 20 years later when my own daughter played her first club volleyball match at the age of 10. Wayne's demeanor hadn't changed in all of those years. He was still focused on providing a positive experience for the athletes on his court. Wayne was a friend to everyone. I am thankful for the good fortune to have crossed his path as he left an indelible mark on my conscience as a player, a coach, and a parent.

Mrs. Gardner and family, We offer our condolences in the loss of your husband. I'll always remember Wayne's passion for life, how he would care for people's health. Wayne would offer his reflexology treatment to people who needed the treatment. With this in mind, it is apart of Aikido. Sharing peace and harmony towards the many peoples he's touched throughout his life. Napoleon Power

Judy and I wish to express our deepest sympathy to Fujiko, Midori and Mari on the loss of your beloved husband and father. We feel a very deep loss for our dearest friend for many many years. We shall never forget him as he will live in our prayers forever. I shall never forgive Wayne for what he did to me 38 years ago upon my arrival at Fort Lewis. I introduced myself to him one afternoon right after I was assigned in the area from Turkey and after he had read my sports officiating resume, proudly announced that I had just become the FL Officials Association new President and Secretary Treasurer. He became on of my dearest friends that day and we have managed to laugh about that day every time we were able to discuss the old days. Again, deepest loss in our lives and I can never ever forget him. John and Judy Gorski

When Wayne was a senior on high school he was my Sunday School teacher. Eight years later he was my high school teacher and friend. At three different times he influenced ny life through phrases and signungs in my bible, year books etc. THese words are with yet: 'Remember that where there is a will there is a way!' ALSO: 'Work is a virtue!!' GOD SPEED YOUR JOURNEY AS YOU DID MINE!!

Mari and Midori - I'm so sorry for your loss. I have so many memories of your Dad at Highline as a ref. It seemed where ever there was volleyball...there was your Dad! I still tell people about the man that helped me make it through tournaments by taking off my sweaty shoes and pressing on the balls of my feet or pushing his thumbs on my shoulders until tears ran...but afterwards felt great and I could play more games! He is fondly remembered. Love to all of you - Janice
