Obituary of Judith Marie Marshall

Judith (Judi) Marshall was born on November 20th, 1942 in Tacoma, WA, to Dora and Layton Lund. She had four siblings; Bud Lund, Rick Lund, Teri (Lund) Pratt, and Donna (Lund) Wright. She attended St. Leo’s Catholic School for girls, and graduated in 1961. In May of 1962, Judi married Stephen Harvey Marshall of Tacoma. They had two girls, Mary Jo (Marshall) Harkness, born February 24th, 1963, and Lynn (Marshall) Thomas, born February 3rd, 1964. While Judi was pregnant with their third daughter Tracey (Marshall) Wirth, born November 6th, 1965, Stephen passed away and Judi was left to raise the girls on her own. On August 16th, 1968, Judi married again, this time to Stephen’s brother Richard Wayne Marshall of Tacoma, WA. Together they had a son, Stephen Wayne Marshall, born on February 13th, 1969. Judi and Richard eventually separated, and she decided to go back to school. She earned her Associates Degree from Tacoma Community College in the spring of 1978, specializing as a Medical Records Technician. She worked for Bellevue Care Center, and thoroughly enjoyed her job. The nursing home had a new facility built, the Gig Harbor Care Center, and when it opened Judi commuted there every day for work. She retired in 2003. Judi enjoyed sewing, cooking, and crafts, especially quilting. She would make gifts for people as often as possible, and even printed birthday cards to give to people. Judi had a lot of health issues in her life, beginning in her early twenties and continuing throughout most of her life. She suffered a lot and still was concerned about her kids and grandkids. In August of 2011, she was rushed to the hospital, where she stayed for a week, and was told it was pancreatitis. In September, she was again rushed to the hospital and stayed for just over a week. Again, she was told it was pancreatitis. She was released from the hospital and went to a nursing home for rehabilitation. She was due to be released from the nursing home on October 18th, but had to be taken to the hospital a third time. After almost ten weeks at the hospital, the doctors were able to determine that Judi had pancreatic cancer, along with a long list of other medical issues. Her health continued to deteriorate. On the 23rd of December, she was transferred to the Franciscan Hospice House in University Place, WA, where she received phenomenal care from the staff and volunteers there. Judi passed away peacefully about 2:00am, the morning of 27 December, 2011. Judi is survived by all four of her children, and thirteen grandchildren: Michael Harkness, Kristen Harkness, Ashley Marshall, Kayti Marshall, Stephen Wirth, Nicholas Dehart, Kathy Thomas, Skylar Hollenbeck, Christopher Harkness, Zach Wirth, Max Thomas, Aiden Marshall, and Piper Marshall. She had one great-grandchild, Lucas Navarro. She is also survived by her brother Bud, and her two sisters Teri and Donna. Judi will be sorely missed by all her family and friends.
