Obituary of Melvin Mahoney

Services for Melvin Mahoney Sr., 54, of Tacoma, Washington will be 4:00 p.m. April 8, 2009 at the Brotherhood Church of God located at 2124 Martin Luther King Jr. Way South, Tacoma, Washington. Interment will be held in New Orleans, Louisiana at a later date. Viewing of the remains will be one hour prior to services at the church. He was born the eldest son of Gloria Mahoney and Melvin Simms on December 14, 1954 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Melvin was raised in New Orleans and educated by the New Orleans Public School System. Melvin gave his life to Christ and was affiliated with many churches throughout his life. His most recent membership was with the Brotherhood Church of God in Tacoma, Washington where he was an active member of the Usher Board. Melvin had several professions while here on this earth, one of his biggest accomplishment was owner and operator of Mel’s Shine Stand a small business located within the Seattle, Tacoma International Airport with his wife Sandra. Melvin leaves to mourn his wife of 20 years Sandra. His children Melvin Jr.,40 (Auburn, WA), Malcolm 39 (Killeen, TX), Marvin 34(Erica) (Gretna, LA), Marva 33 (Alexandria, LA), Mishone 25 (Tacoma, WA), and one step son Steve 39 (Tacoma, WA), 14 grand children, his mother Gloria (Marrero, LA), his father Melvin Simms (Ellenese) (Houston, TX), one brother Bobby (Westwego, LA), four sisters, Patricia (Lawrence Sr.) (Shreveport, LA), Gaynell (Daniel) (Baton Rouge, LA), DeBorah (Marrero, LA), and Diane (Edward) (Baton Rouge, LA), two step-sisters Crystal (Joe) (Houston, TX) and Stacy (New Orleans, LA) and one step brother Daryl Simms (Nelda) (Arizona), his mother–in-law Norma (Chicago, Il), one sisters-in-law Jackie (Danny) (Tacoma, WA), Brother in law Jerome (Debra)( Manor, TX ) and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by one daughter Melva and two his sister’s Majesta and Lisa. Service to be held 4PM Wed. 4/8 at Brotherhood Church of God, 2124 MLK Way S., Tacoma, WA.
