Obituary of Merle L. Slay

Merle was born on August 10, 1936 and he passed away peacefully August 16, 2011 in his home in Gig Harbor, Washington. His final days were spent surrounded by the love of his family and friends, listening to the sweet laughter of his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Rose Marie; his children Dan, Robin, Steve, Sharon, Michelle and Kristie; 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Merle was a retired electrician and proud member of the IBEW for over 50 years. He served in the Army National Guard, United States Air Force and Air National Guard. His greatest pleasure was his family; his best friend and beautiful bride Rose Marie, whom he was head over heels in love with for more than 33 years. He was fulfilled by and so proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren near and far who brought him so much joy. Merle had a lively sense of humor and appreciated fishing, antiques, fine foods and good friends. He was a proud, strong, courageous and loving man who is missed dearly by all who knew him. In our hearts we find peace knowing he is at a trout stream in Idaho now, laughing and smiling because he just hooked a huge rainbow trout. A celebration of his life will be held in his home.
