Obituary of Kitty Lou Bruhn-Anderson

Kitty Lou Stewart Bruhn-Anderson was born May 27, 1938 to Thomas Herbert Stewart and Sarah Graham Stewart in Waynesburg, PA. Her Mother, Father, Stepfather Elmer E. Bruhn and Stepson Shawn Haney preceded her in death. Kitty Lou was baptized as an infant in the Washington Street Methodist Church in Waynesburg, PA. She was confirmed in Montclair Lutheran Church, Denver, CO at the age of 13. She belonged to various Lutheran churches of the ELCA synod while living in California and also in the Enumclaw, WA area. She knew Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She is survived by her four children: Scott Lawrence Smith Gardner, Lori Janette Smith G. Grey, Jeffrey Lee (Sandie) Smith Gardner, and T.Jay Smith Gardner; Stepson Jimmy Haney; and seven grandchildren: Kirby Grey, Matthew Grey, Collin Grey, Arthur Gardner, Victor Gardner, Rachel Gardner and Brianna Gardner; along with three step- grandchildren: Kenneth Bounds, Anthony and Sam Geyman; her sister, Texanna Joe Papworth, and her three children Charles G. Stubben (Lee Ann); Noma Lee Stubben Byerley (Griff), Griffin and Ashlee Joe; and Linda Stubben Johansen (Neal), Krystin and Robert. In addition, she left her Uncle Arthur Graham (91) and numerous Graham and Stewart cousins and their children and grandchildren in PA and step-relatives in Colorado. Kitty left PA with her mother and sister in 1944 and moved that year first to Douglas, AZ and then to Denver, CO where her mother married Elmer E. Bruhn. He adopted her and her sister when they were 13 and 11. She graduated from East High School in 1956. She married Airman Charles L. “Chuck” Smith in 1958 and they moved to Rancho Cordova, CA where their children were born. After 4 years in the USAF, they moved to the Fremont, CA area and she remained there for many years. She was a “stay at home” mother to her children until they were grown and with her svelte figure and fashion sense she was a very successful Beeline clothes “home show” dealer. She moved to Hawaii and spent a few years there and then came back to the mainland and moved to Brawley, CA where her sister and her family were living. In 1985, she and her son T.Jay moved to Washington State. She attended Lutheran Bible Institute for a short time and eventually resided with her stepfather’s cousin Tom Bruhn in Enumclaw, WA. She cared for him until his death. She was a master gardener and spent a great deal of time working in her many gardens. She has been living in Puyallup, WA since 2002 and was popular with the residents in the apartment complex where she prepared meals to give them and enjoyed their company. She was an avid sports fan and in her latter years spent many hours watching her favorite teams or players on television. Her family and friends will miss her deeply. She is given up by her family to her Lord’s wishes of only what is good for all of them. God be praised! Thoughts and condolences may be submitted to the family at www.edwardsmemorial.com for the Guest Book. No further plans have been made.
