Obituary of Beryl Adair Cram

Beryl Adair (Hawkins) Cram, passed away on Tuesday May 29, 2007, after a prolonged illness. She was born in Sunnyside, WA on August 20, 1928 to William B. and Luella (Love) Hawkins. Beryl shared her father’s entrepreneurial spirit; her father managed several J.C. Penney’s stores throughout Washington. Beryl was one of the original staff at the Villa Plaza, J.C. Penney Store in 1957. It was there, that she met and then later married Eldon Cram in 1962. Later, she worked as an Interior Designer in Direct Sales for Penney’s, at the then new, Tacoma Mall. In 1968, she followed her dream and founded Cram’s Interiors along with her husband, Eldon. Their specialties were drapery treatments, upholstery, wallpaper and furniture. The business started in Lakewood, moving to University Place, where they had their own drapery and upholstery workrooms along with a furniture showroom. Beryl was the designer and in her element, doing what she loved best! She retired in 1997. Aside from spending time with her family, Beryl loved her schnauzers, Barney & Jilly and her bouviers Jackie & Miss Peach. The family wants to thank the staff at “Sylvia’s Place A.F.H.” of Lakewood for their excellent care and the compassionate attention that she received during the last months of her life. Beryl is survived by her husband, Eldon Cram of University Place, daughters Sandy (Ed) Murphy, Harstine Island; Tracy (Daniel) Perkins, Gig Harbor; and Gail Cram, Tacoma; brother Gary Hawkins, University Place, nephews Matt Hawkins and Eli Hawkins, both of Fircrest and sister-in-law, Beverly Cram, University Place. There will be a private family service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements by Edwards Memorial Center 253-566-1008
