Obituary of Betty Mae Brooks

Betty M Brooks (Valentine), 81 of Tacoma, WA passed away suddenly on Monday June 27, 2011. Betty was surrounded by family and loved ones. Betty Mae Brooks was born January 13, 1930 in New Effington , SD to Clarence and Julia Valentine. She attended Hart #3 school. The family moved to Sisseton, SD in 1947. While working as a waitress, she met and married Clair Solon Brooks in Sisseton, SD on Aug. 6 1948. Betty also worked at the Landberg Creamery in Sisseton. While they were living in Sisseton, their daughter Marie was born and in 1957 the family moved to Seattle, WA. While in Seattle the family continued to grow. One son, John, and daughter Kimberly were added to the family. Betty volunteered at Cedarhurst Elementary School selling popcorn and helping the Cub Scouts as a Den Mother. The Family moved to La Habra, CA in 1975. Where Betty resided until March 2010 when she moved to Tacoma to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Betty enjoyed scrapbooking, her grandchildren, and watching the Los Angeles Angels. She was a long time active member of TOPS. Betty was proceeded in death by her parents Clarence and Julia (Gubka) Valentine, infant daughter Kimberly, husband Clair Solon Brooks, grandson Andrew Brooks, and sister Mary (Valentine) Hoffman. Betty leaves behind daughter Marie (Steve) Berkebile of Tacoma, WA., son John (Gloria) Brooks of Tucson, AZ., brother Joe (Marion) Valentine of Sisseton, SD., brother-in-law Jerome Hoffman of Brown’s Valley, MN., 3 grandsons (Byron, Matthew and Michael), 4 granddaughters (Julia, Sara, Meagan and Kirsten), 2 great grandsons (Skylar and Kameron) and several nieces and nephews. Burial will be at Riverton Crest Cemetery in Burien, WA on Friday July 22nd at 2:00 PM.
