Evelyn Olson

Obituary of Evelyn Ethel Olson

Evelyn was born Ethel Evelyn Catchpole at Buckley, WA in 1920 and died at age 90 on Sept. 16, 2010. Evelyn was married to husband Albert in Pennsylvania but moved back to the Puget Sound area working at Boeing during World War II. Following the war and Al’s return, Evelyn gravitated toward the health care field and was trained at St. Joseph’s School of Nursing. She used her considerable care for others by working in nursing homes and home health. She continued to use her caring skills wherever she was needed throughout her entire lifetime. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband Albert and all eight of her siblings. She is survived by two sons, Martin and Hal and by two granddaughters, Theresa and Chris. Throughout their married life the Olsons lived on Browns Pt. Blvd. in NE Tacoma and were very active in the fellowship of Olympic View Friends Church, where, in earlier years Evelyn worked in the Day Care, Sunday School and wherever she was needed. The Olson’s garden was often a source of sharing with their friends at Olympic View. Evelyn’s quick wit remained with her till her last days, quipping a couple of weeks prior to her death, when someone commented how pale she looked, “Well, then you can call me bucket.” In the last years of her life Evelyn was looked after by friends she had made at Olympic View. A special thanks to the three “J’s”, Joyce, Jean and Jan who cared for her as she had cared for so many others. A memorial service to honor Evelyn’s life and contribution will be held at her church, Olympic View Friends, 201 Browns Pt. Blvd. NE, Tacoma, WA. Saturday Oct. 2nd at 2:00 p.m. Memorials in Evelyn’s name may be made to the church.
