Obituary of Norma M. Cook

Norma M. Cook, Faculty Emeritus, of Pierce College passed away September 8, 2011. She had been a resident of Lakewood, Washington for 47 years. Norma was born on November 19, 1932 to Jesse and Beatrice Mills in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She received her early education in Louisiana and completed her graduate studies in Washington State. Norma enjoyed a long and illustrious career in education which culminated in her appointment as Director of the Alternative Learning Center at Pierce College, Puyallup. She will be remembered first and foremost as an educator who touched many lives, both in the classroom and beyond the classroom setting. Norma was married to Sigmund L. Cook who has passed. To this union three children were born, Adrienne Cook, Lakewood, Washington; Chanda Stephenson (Joseph), of Port Tobacco, Maryland; and Sigmund K. Cook, of Seattle, Washington. She is also survived by granddaughters, Brittany, Jordan, Cayla; Amanda and Alyssa Stephenson; a brother, Jesse Mills; a sister, Helen Warner; a nephew/Godson Norman, and many other nieces and nephews. Norma will be laid to rest at Mt. View Memorial Park in Lakewood, Washington. Donations can be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
