Obituary of Melody Jean West

Melody Jean West was born September 3, 1946 and passed away peacefully June 4, 2011 at St. Claire Hospital with her family by her side. She was a loving mother, daughter, and a great sister to hang out with and have fun. She grew up in Lakewood and lived her entire life here. She graduated from Clover Park High School in 1965. Mel in her spare time loved knitting scarves and gave them to the Lakewood Shelter for the homeles and crocheting was another passion of hers. She worked for the Clover Park School District for 24 years, and the last 15 years in the Headstart program which she loved the little children she took care of. Melody was passionate about family, friends and lived in a way that made us all want to emulate her kindness and strength. Because of her generous forethought of being an organ donar, Mel's corneas and tissue were donated to people awaiting life-saving transplants. She is survived by her daughter Michelle, mother Marjorie Bigelow and sister Valerie (Jerry) Schaler. The memorial service will be held at Lakeview Chapel, Thursday June 16 at 2:00 p.m. 4606 108th St. S.W. Lakewood, Wa 98499 Donations can be made to Caring 4 kids or the American Heart Association.
