Obituary of Jerry Paul Wilson

68 years old Resident of Moulton, Iowa Passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at his son’s home in Puyallup, Washington, due to a short and unexpected battle with Cancer. Jerry was born on November 17, 1942 in Des Moines, Iowa to Velma Lewin and Ernest Wilson. He was a brother to Don, Mary, and John Wilson. His mother still resides in Iowa. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1959. His Military career was filled with a number of deployments and campaigns, including The Cuban Missile Crisis, and was assigned to small boats (PBR’s) on the inland rivers of Viet Nam. He was assigned to the USS Missouri when it was re-commissioned and was assigned to the USS Hornet when it picked up Apollo 11. He received a multitude of medals, commendations, and honors before retiring after a twenty two year career. He was a true hero who dedicated himself to the US Navy and his Country. Jerry was an avid Golfer. He was a member of the Manhattan Golf Club in Centerville, IA. He accomplished a feat that most golfers will only dream of, achieving a hole-In-One, not only once, but twice. Jerry was an outstanding father, grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed. He had a sense of humor and personality that will never be forgotten. Jerry is survived by six children and a number of grandchildren. His children; Dan, Scott, Shannon, Russ, Jerry, and Mark all reside in the state of Washington. His service was held at the Tahoma National Cemetery on January 25, 2011 at 2:15pm.
