Obituary of Betty Jeanne Shaner

Born Betty Jeanne Hammond, in Mobile, Alabama, on June 9, 1928 passed away with her family by her side on December 7, 2009, preceded in death by her husband Vernon B. Shaner. Wonderful mother of William David Ritchie (LaConner, WA), Richard Gary Ritchie (FT Wortch, TX), Paul Randall Ritchie (FT Worth, TX), Phillip Lindsey Ritchie (deceased), Rebecca Jeanne O'Neal (Tacoma, WA), Sherilyn Kay Misco (Tacoma, WA), Lori Diane O'Neal (Tacoma, WA), and Alisa Gaye O'Neal (Tacoma, WA). Her children meant the world to her, but nothing made her more happy than her grandchildren whom she adored: Kelly Daniel Ritchie (TX), Amanda Nicole Ritchie (Deceased), Heather Miranda Driver (Yokota Air Base, Japan), Daniel Joseph Sharlow Jr (Tacoma, WA), Holly Rebecca Mangum (Little Rock, AR), Amber Renee Parks (Tacoma, WA), Ashley Jade Alexandrea Mangum MSW (Tacoma, WA), Jordan Christopher Sharlow (Tacoma, WA), Steven Anthony O'Neal (Tacoma, WA), Cheryl and Matthew Evans (Mnpls, MN), and Donovan Baily O'Neal. After traveling around the world as a military spouse, she retired in Tacoma, Washington in 1966. There are not enough words to describe our mother and grandmother. She was a God fearing woman, that loved the Lord with all her heart, all her mind, and all her soul, who never lost her southern . She devoted her entire life to raising her children and was actively involved in the upbringing of her grandchildren. There was nothing that she would not do for the ones she loved, but never asked anything in return. She enhanced the lives of everyone she came across. She will be missed by many, but will live on in all of us. In the words of beloved mother and grandmother, "UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN." Our family would like to send a special thank you to the staff of Manor Care of Tacoma, Washington, for taking care of our most precious mother and grandmother. We would also like to thank our extended family and close friends: Gregory Coley, Byron Parks, Daniel Sharlow,Rickey Misco, Mandell Hardy, Edgar Driver, Erskine McLean, Paul Heuser and Anthony Ralls for your dedication to our family over the years.
