The wake is proof of it, going on and on. Forever widening. Forever "moving on" to touch and influence. Our lifelong passages through the waters of life, whether a lake, sea, or ocean, will influence that body of water until the wake is dissipated or forgotten. When a person's life wake widens, it spawns and influences new life vessels with their own wakes, and on and on, into different lakes, seas, and oceans. So as one ship passes, the waters are forever moved. The bigger the vessel, or persona, ther larger the displacement, or influence, and the more encompassing the wake they create in life becomes. Christopher Columbus: the Mayflower. Abraham Lincoln: the Monitor and Merimac. Winston Churchill: the Titanic. My father, Roger Landrud: the Greenpeace. Touching many, refusing few, a ship of knowledge, equality, fair play, historic enlightenment, and humility he was. Ask his pupils and peers, they remember, whether a handstand on a chair, challenge from podium, grace on diving board, focus at tee box. Those who were lucky enough to be touched by his life's wake will be forever enlightened and bouyed by waves he set in motion. I, but a needy offspring, have felt the energy of his propulsion, the humbleness of his prop wash displaced, the knowing my ship was born from a beautiful vessel whose hull remains beneath me to guide me and to keep a course true to his wake. Bless the integrity of the hull, and the wakes, that rock you through life! Blessed am I to have traveled with a ship of such integrity! Its wake will comfort and inspire me until by anchor cannot be weighed.
