Obituary of Gwen D. Pitz

Gwen, age 78, of University Place passed away after a long and courageous battle on September 10, 2011. She was born on April 5, 1933 in Olympia to Harold and Pauline Collier, at a young age the family moved to Tacoma. Gwen graduated from Stadium High School in 1951. On July 6th 1955 she married Earl Pitz and together they shared 52 years of love and devotion. Their travels took them to Laughlin, Jackpot and many scenic campsites. While being a dedicated, caring mother, and homemaker, she earned her Washington State Nurseryman’s license and started her career with Pooles Garden Center. She worked in many garden centers in the Tacoma area until she retired in the late 80’s. Mom contributed 45 years as a volunteer for the Holiday Orthopedic Guild. She also enjoyed many years with her circle of friends playing cards and making crafts. Gwen is survived by her children Ted (Jeri) Pitz, Tim (Karlen) Pitz, Lori (Kyle) Moore, and grandchildren Jessica (Mike), Corey, Tom and Katie. She was preceded in death by her husband Earl. At Gwen’s request there will be no service. Donations may be made in Gwen’s name to the Holiday Orthopedic Guild at Tacoma Orthopedic Association for Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital P.O.
