Betty 'Jeanne' Cox

Obituary of Betty Jean 'Jeanne' Cox

Sunrise: December 13, 1949 - Sunset: February 11, 2011 Poem of Life Author unknown Life is but a stopping place, a pause in what's to be, A resting place along the road, to sweet eternity. We all have different journeys, different paths along the way. We all were meant to learn some things, but never meant to stay. Our destination is a place, far greater than we know. For some, the journeys quicker, for some, the journey's slow. And when the journey finally ends, we'll claim a great reward. And find an everlasting peace, together with the Lord. Jeanne was born December 13, 1949, Betty Jean Flichtscherer in Karlsruhe, Germany. In 1955 Jeanne and mother Berta, immigrated to the United States making their residence in Spokane, WA. While working in an auto dealership in Spokane Jeanne’s mother met Don Ashley Sr. They were married and a year later Don Jr. was born. Jeanne accepted the role of big sister with love and pride. The family lived in Spokane until late 1962 when they moved to Lakewood. There Jeanne attended Clover Park High School, graduating in 1968. During those years Jeanne’s musical, artistic and athletic talents really shined. She enjoyed playing the piano, performing at several public recitals as well as on the radio. She loved doing art work and crafts. She excelled doing tole painting. Her athletic skills were evident during her fierce competition in “hoop shoots”. During her Senior Year at CP she met Jon Cox. He was home on leave from his service with the United State Navy. Two years later when Jon left the Navy and returned to Lakewood, they began dating and married in late 1970. They were blessed with two daughters, Heidi Marie born in 1971 and Nichole Elizabeth born two and a half years later in late 1973. When Jeanne was not a busy home maker, wife and mother she was employed and worked at the Tacoma Golf and Country Club and later the Tacoma Yacht Club. Jeanne and Jon were divorced only to find their love for their daughters and each other bring them back together in marriage a second time. They were married for almost ten years living in Tacoma, Lakewood and Lacey WA. Jeanne found much joy and entertainment in Face Book and in particular maintaining her “farm” in Farmville and playing the various games available on FB. She was reunited recently with classmates (Kathy, Tracey, Barrett and many others) from Clover Park because of the Internet. She spoke often of the joy reconnecting with them brought to her. She had been a member of the Moonshiners and Webfooters Jeep clubs and truly enjoyed the friendships made with members of those clubs and the other clubs who participated in all the outings and races she attended. Some of her proudest days were watching her daughters race at the various jeep club events. She was quite the jeep racer herself. Jeanne’s life travels led her to live in Seattle, Burien, Missoula MT, Anchorage AK and most recently Yelm WA. Where ever she lived, she found and made friends. She was born on December 13, 1949 and departed this life peacefully on February 11, 2011. She is now free of the pain and suffering she had endured and is surely smiling down upon us. Jeanne was truly blessed and a blessing to all who knew her. She is preceded in death by her loving father Donald Ashley Sr. She leaves to cherish her memory her mother Berta (Lakewood), two daughters, Heidi (Puyallup), Nichole (Lacey), son-in-law Shawn (Lacey); grandsons, Riley, identical twins Brandon and Brady (Heidi) and Dalton (Nicki) and granddaughter Trista (Nicki); brother, Don Jr & sister-in-law, Krise (Tumwater) nephew, Steven (Lakewood), nieces Lauren, Bianca & Tabytha (Tumwater); sister, Linda & brother-in-law Pierre (Spokane); nephews Shawn and Travis and niece Mindi (Spokane); her beloved pet cat companion “Buddy” and her good friend Jon as well as many extended family and friends. Heidi, Nicki, Jon, Don Jr, Krise and Berta want to thank Wendy, Janeen & Russell for allowing Jeanne to live with them and for the loving care and compassion shown to Jeanne these past months. We cannot thank you enough or begin to show how much we appreciate all you did for her. We love you so much for your contributions to making Jeanne comfortable. Acknowledgments Heidi’s, Nicki’s, and Don’s families and Berta and Jon acknowledges, with sincere appreciation, the comforting messages, prayers and other expressions of kindness during this time of bereavement. May God Bless and Keep You! Celebration of Life Saturday, March 19, 2011 1:00 P.M. Lacey, WA
