Obituary of Verna Valerie Staggers

Verna Valerie Staggers was born June 13, 1922, to the late Mr. General Staggers and Mrs. Mamie Staggers in Ozan, Arkansas. She departed this life and went to be with the Lord on May 5, 2023. Verna accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord at a very early age. She was baptized at Allen AME in Sweet Home, Arkansas; and continued to be a faithful servant at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Tacoma, Washington. She was educated in the Sweet Home Arkansas school system. She also worked with the Little Rock School District as a cook until retirement in 1978. In 1979 she moved to Tacoma, Washington. Verna met and married the love of her life Mr. Carroll Henderson, and from this union they were blessed with four beautiful daughters. Verna was a dedicated mother, sister, aunt and friend. She was always full of joy and loved to spend time with family and friends. During her leisure time she enjoyed cooking and was featured in the Tacoma, Washington Newspaper for her famous cookies, she was an avid quilt maker and had the ability to create and join layers of fabric with a unique twist for bed coverings. She also enjoyed growing plants, fruits and vegetables. Verna was preceded in death by her brothers: Dupree Staggers, Claudie Staggers, Lubie “Hick’ Staggers, Andrew Staggers, Sr., Earmon Staggers, and Cornel Staggers. Her Sisters: Lucile Staggers, Eletha Staggers Turner, and Clementine Staggers Stuart. Her Husband, Carroll Henderson and Daughter: Verbe Henderson Crooms. Her treasured memories will remain with her only sister, Mildred Staggers Brent. Children: Delois Diane Henderson, Perrie Ruth Henderson, James Oliver Henderson, Sr., and Johnnie Vanessa Sandifer. Grandchildren: Nikita McCreery (Sean), Derick Sandifer (Lisa), Simika Angelo (David), Yolanda Faye Sandifer, Ayona Johnson, Riveka Crooms, Ebony Washington, Abbra Scott, and James Oliver Henderson, Jr., (Samaria), sixteen great grandkids, two devoted nephews: Larry Henderson and Alvin Turner, two devoted nieces; Eldoris Green and Tony Fonzo a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
