Joann Tryfon

Obituary of Joann Tryfon

Our beloved JoAnn Tryfon was born April 26, 1939, in Tacoma Washington and passed away April 11, 2023. She attended Franklin Elementary, Jason Lee Middle School, Stadium High School and University of Washington, Seattle.

JoAnn was incredibly intelligent, an avid reader and lifelong learner who actively kept up on world events and politics. She worked in upper management at Boeing Employee's Credit Union, was on the board of Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Tacoma and was a member of the Daughters of Penelope. She was very involved with and devoted much of her time to the Saint Nicholas Church and held a very deep faith throughout her life.

JoAnn was passionate about her Greek heritage and always interested in discovering more about her Greek family history.

Working in her beautiful garden brought her much joy and peace.

Above all, JoAnn dearly loved her family. She was devoted to her parents, John and Martha, who she was highly proud of, and cared for her mother in her last years. She especially loved spending time with children, her niece Sandra, and nephews Jon and Tod, and in more recent years she “lit up” when spending time with her great/great-nieces and nephew. She loved her cat who she named after her mother.

JoAnn was compassionate and giving to a fault. She cared deeply for humanity. She was an excellent conversationalist and so enjoyable to spend time with. She had a contagious smile and a wonderfully gentle laugh. Her kind nature was a blessing. She will be deeply missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Martha Tryfon, and her brother George Tryfon. She is survived by her niece Sandra Ciarochi (Anthony), nephews Jon Tryfon (Joellyn) and Tod Tryfon, many great nephews and nieces, and great-great nephew and nieces.

A funeral service for JoAnn will be held May 1, 2023, at 11 am at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Tacoma. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Nicholas are greatly appreciated.
