Reverend Dr. Charles Arthur Horne, age 88, was called from labor to reward on Thursday, December 24, 2021. To many he was known as “Dr. C.A. Horne” and to some “Chuck”. Dr. Horne was born April 12, 1933 in Anson County, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Samuel and Hellen Moore Horne. Dr. Horne loved the Lord with all his heart, and all of his soul, and with all of his mind; and devoted himself to teach and spread the gospel to all nations.

He was educated in the Stanly County public schools and graduated from Wadesboro High School, Wadesboro, North Carolina.               Dr. Horne loved education and enjoyed teaching – he considered himself a life-long learner.

He held the following degrees: Doctor of Theology, ThD - A.L. Hardy Academy of Theology; PhD (ABPD) - Union Institute; MPA (Business Concentration) - University of Puget Sound; BA (Sociology/Community Organization) - University of Puget Sound; and an Associate Degree (Social Studies) - Tacoma Community College. He would say, “It’s never too late to learn, or to try something new”.

In 1954, Dr. Horne started his military career as he served in the United States Amy and later enlisted in the United States Air Force. His military career spanned 20+ years, he received many commendations and retired as Master Sergeant with honorable discharge. In July 1959, he met the love of his life Ms. Johnnie Louise Campbell and after a blessed courtship they married. Dr. Horne being a military man, his career gave them an opportunity to travel extensively both home and abroad, including Japan, Germany and other foreign places. Some of their favorite cities of travel were Toronto and Victoria, Canada. While in Germany, they gave birth to two sons.

Years later, two additional children were born to the union. They also were foster parents. Dr. Horne loved and was devoted to his family…as years pasted the Lord increased his territory and blessed him with a daughter-in-law and two grandchildren.                               His grandchildren were the apple of his eye, and the cherry on the top!

In 1963, they moved to Tacoma, Washington and joined the St. John Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor J.A. Boles. Never idle, always involved, Dr. Horne worked enthusiastically in church and was dedicated to the transition of leadership of Apostle Lee Arthur J. Madison. Dr. Horne served faithfully as an Administrative Team Leader in Fivefold Ministry and was assigned many other ministerial responsibilities. He taught doctrinal studies classes, as well as mentored and equipped aspiring clergy in answering their call to ministry. He was responsible for organizing monthly baptisms as he had baptized many in his younger years. Dr. Horne served faithfully as Sunday School Superintendent and was also the Missions and World Outreach Department Director. His passion for people, missions and world outreach, motivated him to the spread the gospel locally as well as support international mission abroad. Within the community, Dr. Horne worked with many organizations, and served on many boards i.e., Asian Pacific Cultural Center, Blacks in Government, Genesis Housing and Community Development Coalition (HCDC), Pierce County Prayer Breakfast, Tacoma Pierce County Chaplaincy, and Tacoma Ministerial Alliance.

Highlighting Dr. Horne’s professional and entrepreneurial career, his work spans the region to include Boeing Aircraft Company; Department of Social & Health Services; Division of Criminal Justice-OFM; Cosmopolitan Business Development; TriStar; Business Incubator. He taught at the following institutions: City University, University of Puget Sound (UPS), Cascadia Puyallup Indian Tribe, as well as McChord Air Force Base.

In his leisure Dr. Horne enjoyed studying the Bible, traveling and taking cruises, as well as watching and attending Formula -1 racing events. He was also an avid golf lover… on Sunday’s after church you couldn’t beat him getting home to watch golf and we would hear him say, “I hope Tiger Woods hit a hole in one or a birdie”! As a music lover, he enjoyed the old gospel quartet groups, classical music and jazz as well.

Reverend Dr. C.A. Horne was well-spoken, charismatic and a great conversationalist. Gone from our presence, but never from the hearts of those who admired and loved him. He will be dearly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 52 years Johnnie Louise Horne, son Andre` M. Horne; and siblings Fred Jr. Horne, Valonza Horne, Roosevelt “Chuck” Horne, and Jessie Horne Spencer.

He leaves to cherish his memories three sons and a daughter-in-law, Charles V. & Sandra, Michael A., and Roudrik; grandchildren Daniel C. and Faith D. Horne; Ola Shelton (sister-in-law) of Sparks NV, Bettie Larkin (sister-in-law) & Henry Larkin (brother-in-law) of Palestine, Texas and a host of friends.
