Flora Katherine Willett
Flora Willett passed away on February 6, 2022. Born in Los Angeles on October 26, 1935, to Annabelle Sasnett Willett and Dr. Hugh Carey Willett, Sr. Flora graduated from Dorsey High School and received her BA in English from the University of Southern California in 1956. Flora taught English at Eastern Montana College, later Montana State University. She received her Doctor of Philosophy from Washington State University in 1984. In 1991 Flora retired as a professor of English and continued her lifelong education at the Colgate Rochester Divinity School, receiving her Master of Divinity in 1993. She moved to the Seattle area to help with Baptist “church planting” efforts in Western Washington. Flora lived the rest of her life in the Seattle area, a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Des Moines. She was an active PEO sister since being invited to join as a young adult. Flora played the harp, loved cats, and always lived life on her own terms. Flora is preceded in death by her older brother, Hugh Willett, Jr.
Flora’s life will be celebrated by a private family observance. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the First Baptist Church of Des Moines, 22415 19th Ave S, Des Moines, WA 98198.
