Obituary of Ruth Mary Nedved

Ruth Mary Nedved, age 94, passed away on August 13, 2021 at home, surrounded by her family, in McCleary WA. She was born and raised in Yankton, South Dakota where she met and married Clarence “Ned” Nedved, her beloved husband of 65 years. Ned’s career in the army brought them to Ft. Lewis WA in 1950. They moved to Lakewood where they purchased a home where they lived the remainder of their lives and raised their four children. After Ned passed in 2011, Ruth eventually moved to the Beehive Retirement Center in McCleary WA to be close to her daughter Trish and granddaughter Kristie who were devoted to her happiness and well being. Ruth’s life’s passion was children, far more than her own four. For 30 years she and her sister-in-law, Gladys were the “ nursery ladies” at the Ft. Lewis Main Chapel providing childcare for all of the religious services and other activities held. So many mothers grew close to them appreciating the love and kindness they showed their children. She also provided daycare in her home often starting with them as infants, growing to school age, children she followed through their lives to adulthood. So she was “mom” to many. Ruth is survived by her four children, Trish (Ron) Bradbury of McCleary WA, Peggy (Teri) Deal of Brecksville OH, Dave (Prov) Nedved of Kent, OH and Jeff (Elizabeth) Nedved of Tacoma WA plus seven grandchildren, Kristie Traweek, Todd Traweek, Brenden Nedved, Audrey Nedved, Jack Nedved, Gabe Nedved, Miranda Nedved and one great grandchild, Madeline Traweek. She was the last of the Kuehn family being preceded in death by her parents and five siblings. A funeral mass will be held at St. Francis Cabrini Church in Lakewood on Aug. 26, 2021 at 11:00 AM. Masks are required. A graveside service will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Lakewood for immediate family members. On-line condolences can be sent to the Edwards Memorial website. Please no flowers. Donations can be made to the Lung Association or EWTN or have a mass said for her.
