Obituary of Kristine Lynn Kade

Kristine was a Tacoma girl through and through. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School class of 1967. She worked babysitting for years to save up enough money to travel Europe after graduation. So that summer she and Betsy Jones set out on the travels of a lifetime.

When she returned from Europe summer was over and she started college at UPS for a couple of years. Kristine thought it was time to find a career, which she did in banking. She started with Puget Sound National Bank as a teller. In time she moved up the ladder, so to speak, to assistant vice president. When PSNB was sold she was devastated, she loved working for that bank. She continued on to Sterling and retiring from Columbia Bank as a compliance officer.

Kristine’s real fun in life was junking and being creative. She loved to go to garage and estate sales with her good friend, Marie. They would turn junk into treasures, in fact, they called themselves, trash to treasures. Some of you may remember the annual garden event held in Kristine’s yard. The yard would be filled with fun, functional, pieces for the garden and the home. They held these events, that were so much fun, for about 17 years. Another purpose Kristine had when she was out looking for treasures was to find items to donate to her neighbor’s school, she also donated to the toy rescue mission and women’s shelter.

When Debbie and I were building our house in Fall City, Kristine would come on the weekend to help us cut and split wood from the many trees that came down to make room for the house. She helped us haul stones from over the property to make a stone path, she helped lay the brick patio from the bricks we hauled from her N. Anderson house. She helped us for over 6 months to create our home, we named a bedroom,” Kristine’s Room” and she decorated it her way.

Gretchen and Mike bought a 5th wheel to pull behind their big truck. In June of 2018, Kristine flew to Salt Lake City where they met up and traveled to Utah, Idaho, and Montana. She sat in the back seat with Nessa and Quinn tracing their route with a yellow marking pen on the Atlas where they had been and where they were heading. They met up at Ocean Shores and Hoods Port for camping and walks on the beach. These outings were a great time for the twins to be together and Mike as their escort.

As a young girl, she was a girl scout. A dedicated girl scout, I think she earned as many badges as she could. She lived by the law of the girl scouts. “I will do my best, to be honest, and fair, friendly and helpful, considerate and caring, courageous and strong, and responsible for what I say and do, and to respect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place, and be a sister to every girl scout”.

A private memorial will be held on Friday, June 9.
