Obituary of Shanta Rae Stevens

Shanta Rae Stevens, age 63, passed away, surrounded by her loved ones on Wednesday June 9, 2021. She was born on November 24, 1957 in Dothan, AL to Merrill and Ann (Westlund) Stevens.

Shanta attended Mann Junior High School from 1971 to 1973 and graduated from Lakes High School in 1976.  In addition to her job employment with SuperValu, Pacific Cities Property Management, and various other employers, her longest and dearest employment was as a bartender and server at Harbor Lights.  There she established and maintained many long-term friendships.  Shanta and Rick enjoyed many life experiences. Among her interests were horse-back riding, hiking, water- and snow-skiing, kayaking, road trips in the motorhome,  

fishing, creating mosaics, jewelry making, gardening, nights out with friends, traveling with friends and family, viewing wildlife, sunsets, beach walks, horse and dog shows, dog training, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and Judge Judy, and caring for her beloved pets.  Noni, Rudy and Pony preceded her in death, but Jazzmine, Wilson and Fancy are still with us.   

She is survived by her long time significant other, Richard (Rick) Johnson of Lakewood, WA, her sisters Kathy Ann (Stevens) Smith (San Diego, CA) and Maureen (Stevens) Crowley (Marietta, GA), her nephews Scott Justin Smith (Tacoma, WA) and Shawn Patrick Smith (San Diego, CA), Jeremiah (Jerry) Crowley (Columbia, SC) and Rachel Anne Crowley (Brooklyn, NY), her great nephews and nieces, Joseph Christian Smith (San Diego, CA), Rebekah Jillette (Smith) Church (San Diego, CA), Maya Natalie (Smith) Harrall (Hubert, NC), and Jakob Patrick Smith (San Diego, CA), and great grand-nieces Madelyn Rose Harrall and Harper Elizabeth Harrall (Hubert, NC). Shanta was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Gary Edward Stevens (Chewelah, WA), and by her many beloved loyal friends.  She was a loyal friend.

Due to the current social situation the family has opted to postpone the Celebration of Life until early August.  Date and times to be announced in the near future. 

 

We hope all her many friends will join us.
