I am grateful to have had the pleasure of knowing Mary Sue. She was truly a kind woman. Kalie was her granddaughter as well as mine, and also our first! Kalie loved her Washington grandma very much, and had no problem telling me that Mary Sue’s meatloaf was way better than mine! I know you’re going to live on in all of your grandkids and watch over them as they grow. RIP Mary Sue, you will be missed.

I met Mary Sue first day of high school at St Leo. She was funny and ready to be disrespectful (to nuns), as were all of us young Christian women of character. Our oaths crossed many times over the years. At one time we even worked fior the same company. But that is history abd history is dull. After class 40 year reunion Mary Sue made it her mission that we would all, from time to time, get together and blue off steam. After all that is what young Christian women of character do. A true joy in life is to meet with childhood friends all grown up and find y’all are still the same as in freshman home room. You will always be Mary Sue to me. I miss you my friend.

Memories of my friend Mary Sue,
In 1982 my husband Fred and I bought the house across the street from Mary Sue. We had a 1 ½ year old son, Justin, and Mary Sue had a 4-year-old son, Jeremy. The two became friends as did Sue and I. After Mary Sue married Carlos and they had their first child Nik, Fred and I followed with Logan. Then a year later CJ was born. My youngest, Joe, came a year after CJ. Just so you know we were not competing with each other. It was just the blessings given to us. Although, after Kat was born I did feel Sue had won a big prize with the birth of their daughter.
During those years Sue and I decided to exercise 3 days a week, so we got Richard Simmons’s VHS “Sweating to the Oldies”. We thought it was working great then one of us would get pregnant again! Two other neighbors joined us and we all shared our homes with all of the children in the neighborhood. Gary and Glory lived next door to me and had 2 beautiful sweet girls. All of the boys one day decided to have a peeing contest in front of Glory’s house. Understandably she was a little upset and let the boys know that it was not acceptable behavior and scolded them. Glory let Sue and I know what had happened and we put on the best stern faces we could muster and told the boys never to do that again! Sue and I laughed about that incident for years and I’m hoping glory did too!
It seems like I was always short on ingredients when making something and Sue would come to my rescue. One time It turned out to be equipment I fell short on. I called Sue and said, “I don’t know what to do, I’m making beef barley soup for the first time and the barley has absorbed all the broth!” Sue said all I needed was more pots and broth. I asked her, “How many pots do you have and what sizes because what I have right now is a hard blob Sue laughed and said to send Justin over to get them and she would look for her big ones. To this day my son Justin will ask me if he should go to Mary Sue’s to get me more pots if he knows I’m making beef barley soup.
I will always cherish our friendship and the energy and love she gave me. Rest in peace my adopted big sister.
