I met Mike in 1990, when Mike and Joe hired me as their legal secretary, and I worked with Mike for four years. During that time, not only was Mike my boss, but also my attorney and friend, who I kept in touch with over the years since that time. I thought very highly of Mike, and referred many friends to him, which means that I not only knew he was a great lawyer but also trusted him. I had an opportunity to have beer at the brewery with Mike and Joe in 2015, and that was the last time I saw him. I'm very thankful for that memory. We often take for granted we’ll be able to see someone again, and knowing he is gone, breaks my heart. I will always remember Mike’s smile and laugh, and how he was always kind and helpful to me. He will sure be missed. My deepest condolences to Mike’s family. Helen B.

I was a client of Mikes. He represented my mother in a case against a Care giving facility in Puyallup. Mike won our case. He also assisted me in trying to get full payment on a company I sold. He was a bulldog. I am shocked to have read the obituary in the paper not 30 minutes ago. We last worked together about 3 years ago. Must have been just prior to his diagnosis. I too am a Cougar and Mike and I usually had some comment to each other upon saying our good byes on that visit. I liked him very much. Great guy, great man. RIP Mike. Save a tee time for me when I see you again Mike. Deepest sympathies, Larry Olson

Mike and I met in 1975, at Mount Tahoma High School. Since then, we've been classmates, teammates, law partners and business partners. But more than that, we've been friends, brothers and not blood family but chosen family. We lived and experienced life together, from the rigors of practicing law, to the tedium of managing a business, to the soaring heights and sometimes disappointing lows of real life, family life - we've encouraged and supported each other through all of our life events and seasons, gains and losses, victories and defeats.
Mike was a man of great intellect, unwavering principle, and fierce loyalty. Mike's clients got to experience this when he represented them - I got to experience it daily.
Mike loyalty ran deep to not just family, friends and clients, but also to his beloved University of Washington Huskies. Even though I'm a WSU Cougar, I admired Mike's passion for his alma mater and we had a blast being archrivals one day of the year - Apple Cup day. We had many creative Apple Cup bets over the years (I'd make them more creative the years my Cougs had a good chance to win the game) - ask me sometime and I'll tell you some stories. I think Mike was a little more gracious in victory than I was - or maybe less obnoxious is more accurate.
The people Mike loved he loved deeply, as his wife, daughters and close friends can attest to. And Mike would absolutely light up when he would talk about his granddaughter June - she was truly the apple of his eye. I wish I could tell him that I am going to be a grandpa too.
My life isn't the same without Mike's presence, and our office, Loran & Ritchie, will never be the same. Fond memories will encourage us, but Mike will be missed immeasurably.
If there's a golf course in heaven, Mike is playing daily, hitting long, straight drives, making every putt, and loving every minute of it. God bless you my friend.

So sad to learn of Mike's passing. I was a classmate at Mt Tahoma (Class of '77) and UPS (Class of "81). I almost followed his path into law, but at the time I graduated from UPS 3 more years of school, more debt and the market for lawyers was oversaturated led me to reconsider that plan. No regrets. May he rest in peace. My sympathy to his loving family.
