Obituary of Kathy W Brown

Born January 12, 1957 to Thomas and Juanita (Mixon) Baker in Columbus, Mississippi. Kathy’s father died at an early age. Her mother remarried to Olav Osterhus. They then moved to Lakewood in the summer of 1966. She attended Lakes High School. After high school, she went to work for West Coast Grocery in the service merchandise department. She married and gave birth to three children, Katrina, Jason and Serena Barker. She divorced their father and while working she met and married Gary L. Brown, whom she lived with and loved for 31 years.

Nothing was more important to her than her children were. She loved them dearly. There was nothing she would not do for them. Even after they were grown, that same love and caring went to the grandchildren, Andrew, Jessy Jr., and Justin.

Her other interests were bingo, trying for the next jackpot on a slot machine and RVing with family, friends, and the Olympic Snowbirds R.W. club.

She was a loving and caring mother, wife and friend. She made many sacrifices of herself so that others would have what they needed. Even as she lay dying in the ICU at St. Clare Hospital, she had to have pizza ordered for the nurses and staff.

She was always first to volunteer for United Way, Red Cross, and many other organizations that helped those in need.

She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas, mother Juanita and nephew, Thomas Richey.

She is survived by her husband, Gary Brown; Children Katrina, Jason and Serena; stepdaughter Trisha Brown; sisters Nita (Richard) Giertz, Debra (Rod) Dickinson, Stepfather Olav (Mary) Osterhus, nephews Danny, Richard, and Olav Giertz, grandchildren Andrew, Jessy Dr, and Justin; and many of her relatives on the Baker/Mixon side of the family who live in the southern states; loving friend Ron Seau; and her special, compassionate, and loving friend Helen Slaterand.

Graveside Service to be held on January 15, 2021 at 12:00pm at Calvary Cemetery.
