Obituary of Hope Mary Colosimo

Hope Mary Colosimo took her place in the eternal afterlife on November 24, 2020. Hope was born Esperanza Maria de los Angeles Jaspe Nunez in Manzanillo, Cuba on August 27, 1944. Her parents, Carlos and Victoria (Jaspe) Nunez moved Hope and their family to Queens, New York in 1949.

Hope grew up a true fan of the New York Yankees and Mickey Mantle. Her admiration for baseball led her to the love of her life, Michael Joseph Colosimo Jr in 1963.  Mike and Hope married on August 19, 1967, and moved to Honolulu, Hawaii the next day.  Mike and Hope spent the next 40 years of their lives raising their 3 children in Hawaii. Supporting their children through girl scouts, school, baseball, softball, and field trips. Hope cherished being a homemaker, mother, and friend. The couple would retire in 2003 to Tacoma, Washington, where they would spend their time growing flowers and herbs on their deck, baking bread, making apple butter, raising their grandchildren, and taking countless drives where no road was taken twice.

Retirement gave Hope the opportunity to simply be Hope. Needlepoint, sewing, crafts, baking, and volunteering at her Grandchildren’s school, Hope’s hands were never empty when hosting friends and family. She loved to spoil her grandchildren. As a true and dear friend, Hope maintained long-distance friendships with those in Hawaii. She happily spent time talking on the phone reminiscing with those she loved. Hope spent her later years traveling; Alaska cruises trips to Spain, New York, and Florida to create cherished memories with those she loved. Hope’s affinity for casinos, old movies, and random trivia, never led to dull moments or conversation.

Hope was affectionately known as Aunty Hopie or Grandma Hope by many who experienced her grace and generosity.  Hope had a heart of gold and always thought of others before herself.  Hope will be forever in our hearts and we are blessed to have so many beautiful memories of her.

Hope is proceeded in death by her husband of 43 years Mike, her parents, Carlos and Victoria, her brother Charlie Nunez.  Hope is survived by her daughters Dina Colosimo, Vicki (Ishmael) Asaeli, and her son Michael Colosimo.  Her grandchildren, Miles and Cole Thomas, Andrew, Addisyn & Camryn Asaeli.  Her brother, Charles (Maritza) Nunez, her sister Maria Nunez and sister-in-law Flora Nunez. Her uncles, Rolando Jaspe, Ruben Nunez, aunts, Concheta Nunez, Nora Nunez, and Gloria Nunez, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Due to COVID 19, services and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
