Life Sketch / Obituary of

Charlene Louise Mosbarger Pearson

Charlene began life at Olympic Hospital in Bremerton, Washington on the 21st of April 1935, which coincidentally was also Easter Day.  Everyone in her family was fond of sharing how she was brought by the Easter Bunny.  Her early years living on Naval Ave were happy and she was surrounded by love and kindness.  She was the second child and only daughter of Lee and Louise Mosbarger.  Her older brother, Gene, was protective and caring.  She was something of a daddy's girl and had a special bond with him.  She had many childhood friends and enjoyed remembering the good times growing up in her neighborhood.

Charlene's mother was a well-trained musician and passed her love of music and good training on to her daughter.  An excellent pianist, Charlene enjoyed playing all sorts of music including arrangements of hymns, popular musicals, and classical as well.  She was always playing for church meetings and activities and was a much sought after accompanist for soloists and groups throughout her life.  While still in school she was able to try out many different instruments and was soon playing the Cello in the city symphony for some time.  Music continued to be a large part of her life.  She taught piano in her home for many years and especially loved teaching those children who would not otherwise be able to have that exposure to music.  She frequently played the piano well into the night to wind-down after the duties of the day were accomplished.

Charlene was also an accomplished artist.  At a young age she showed great ability and enjoyed many styles such as graphic illustration, oil painting, watercolor, and oil pastels.  She used her skills to beautify her own home, make posters for church activities, and gifts for others.

As a young adult she found great joy and friendship in her local church's activities.  The group was known as M Men and Gleaners and she would recall with such sweetness her time with that group.  As she had grown up in a Navy town you can be sure that caution was expected with all those sailors around town.  But when they showed up at a church activity, they must be okay.  And so, she met Victor Pearson, a young sailor from Idaho.  They started spending rather a lot of time together and her family just loved him.

The summer of 1957 the young couple traveled all the way to Idaho Falls, Idaho, where the nearest temple, at the time, of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was located in order to be married for all time and eternity.  Charlene and Victor had a lovely life together.  Their first daughter, Jeannette, was born in December of 1958 just 4 days after Christmas.  Their next and final daughter, Michelle was born in June of 1966.  During their time together as a family there were many moves, many new friends and growing experiences.  As the girls moved on and had families of their own, Charlene and Victor were  blessed to spend several years living near each family while their children were young. They loved and shared that love and knowledge of the Savior and those things that were most sweet to them with their little grandchildren.  Charlene was able to be a babysitter, a piano teacher and a special friend to each grandchild.  She loved each one dearly.

She very much enjoyed the time she was able to volunteer at the Jordan River Temple with Victor. Her life was full of family, friends, and church.  She meant so much to so many and will be remembered for her sweet kindness, loyalty, and willingness to share her many, many talents with all those around her.

Charlene passed Thursday, December 3, 2020 at St Anthony's Hospital in Gig Harbor, Washington.  She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Victor Pearson; her two daughters, Jeannette Hill (Kent), residing at Fox Island, Washington, and Michelle Black (Kevin), residing at Sandy, Utah; and eight grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her brother, Gene Mosbarger.
