Obituary of Ronald Ollie Myers

Ron was born in Ashtabula, Ohio on March 14, 1947, and spent his childhood in both Ohio and Florida. He was a graduate of Jefferson High School's Class of 1965 and served in the United States Navy from 1966-1970 aboard the USS John W. Weeks destroyer; serving 9 months in Vietnam from Jan-Sept 1969. After being discharged in April 1970, he spent time in Ohio, Florida and Louisiana until 1979 when he settled in Washington State with his first wife, Pauline, and three children: Tom, Scott and Karen.

He taught Grocery Management at Clover Park Technical College (previously CPVTI) from 1982 to 1992 and has used those skills and knowledge to mentor and counsel throughout his years; helping many Puget Sound businesses thrive. He worked extensively with many Tribes in the Pacific Northwest including Squaxin Island, Nooksack, Quinault, Puyallup, Chehalis, Tulalip, Nisqually, Swinomish, Lummi, Stillaguamish and many more. He co-founded The Summit Group in 2009 and served on the Board of Directors as Vice Chair for over seven years. Now known as the Tribal Convenience Store Association (TSCA), they join together over 50 Tribes in 9 states from Alaska to Oklahoma.

Ron married Tammie Jean in June 1994 and lived 26 wonderful years together in the Lacey/Olympia area raising his three step-children: Jon, Alisha and Daniel and their daughter, Kimberly.

In his younger years, he loved camping, boating, card/cribbage night, golfing and throughout it all, of course...he loved his Seahawks!! (we figure he'll be helping them get to the Superbowl this year!!) More than that, he loved his family with all his heart. He taught us all to be kind, committed and courageous. He taught us extraordinary work ethic, restraint and the clear and obvious line between right and wrong. He always had a listening ear and time to help those in need. He showed us each what unconditional love and acceptance was all about.

He is survived by his loving wife, Tammie; his children, Scott Myers (Michelle) of Hillsboro, OR (granddaughter Kiara); Karen Myers of Banks, OR (grandson Aidan); Kimberly Myers of Buckley, WA; and granddaughter Ariel Myers of Banks, OR (great-grandson Kiernan); his stepchildren, Jon Decker (Jennifer) of Elma, WA (grandchildren Jordan & Emma); Alisha Monette of Rochester, WA (grandchildren Kayla, Kiahna & Kai); Daniel Decker (Lindsay) of Buckley, WA (grandsons Hunter & Caleb).

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Bryson and Mildred (Whitten) Myers; brother, Donald; sister, Nancy; and, in January of this year...his son, Tom.

He leaves behind his sister, Karen Ahola (Gary) of Bullhead City, AZ; nephews Bob Ahola (Lynette) and Kevin Ahola (Jeannie); niece Katherine Gavel; many more extended family members and friends from all over the world.

We will miss his kind and loving nature, his smile, his laughter, his wisdom and his very existence in our lives.

The family expresses their gratitude to the staff at Swedish Hospital and Tacoma General Hospital for the care and comfort they provided to Ron and his family during the most challenging and final chapter of his life.

Services will be held Sunday, October 18th at 1pm at Edwards Memorial, 11020 South Tacoma Way, Lakewood, WA. All are welcome. Masks will be required, social distancing measures followed.
