Obituary of Peter J Neff

On Monday, September 14th, 2020, Peter J. Neff passed away at the age of 81.

Pete was born in Michigan in 1939, to Fanny “Peggy” and Bravin “Joe” Neff. With his first wife, Pete had three children, Peter, Joanne, and Christopher. Pete married the love of his life, Rose Wride, in 1967. Together they raised three children, Glen, Susan, and Scot.

Pete served in the U. S. Army for 20 years as an Aircraft Mechanic, working his way up to Aircraft Maintenance Supervisor, retiring as Sergeant First Class. His service included three combat tours in Vietnam, as well as service in Korea, Germany, Iran, and several domestic postings. He earned seven Air Medals, representing 175 combat air missions in Vietnam. He retired from the military in Tacoma, Washington. After his military service, Peter worked as a union carpenter. He retired in 2001.

Pete’s interests were many and varied. He was an avid reader and enjoyed science, bike riding, camping, hiking, photography, fishing, and cooking. He passed his love of the outdoors onto his children, taking them on many hiking, camping, and star gazing adventures. He was known for his smile, his great sense of humor, his gentle nature, and his love of God.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers William Neff and Joseph Neff, his sisters Barbara Cooke and Sally Harrison, and his son, Christopher Neff. He is survived by his wife Rose; his children Peter (Julie) Hamer, Joanne Wells, Glen (Kathleen) Neff, Susan (Robert) Lyon, and Scot Neff; his grandchildren Aaron, Anastasia, Jeroen, Sarah, Andrew, Charlotte, Natalie, and Leo; his siblings Patricia Mertens, Paul Neff, Phillip Neff, and Charles Neff; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A service will be planned at a later date due to COVID-19 restrictions. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org or to a charity of your choice.
