Obituary of Roger Dale Amburgy

Roger Dale Amburgy was born in Tacoma, WA October 4th, 1945. Son of Cecil and Ferne Amburgy. Roger is preceded in death by his wife Constance, his parents, and his daughter, Kelsey Dawn Amburgy. He is survived by his daughters Jennifer Wright and Jessica Terrones as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Roger was raised in the Sumner Valley and grew up with his brothers Corey, Mick, and Tracy as well as his sister Allison. He played varsity sports for Sumner High School and was a math scholar who received a full-ride scholarship to the University of Washington. He eventually decided to go his own way and complete his college career at Western Washington State University in Bellingham with his Bachelor’s Degree in Education.

Before his career in Teaching, Roger was a Navy man who took great pride in his choral skills and serving his country in the Military.

Once out of the military, Roger began teaching in the Renton School District for both Hazen and Renton High Schools. He taught drafting, auto cad, shop, and was a coach for wrestling and basketball. He also was a college professor at Renton Technical College with Auto Cad and Drafting courses. Roger impacted many students in his quest to impart knowledge and was well-liked by both kids and staff.

In his downtime, Roger loved to play sports for fun and recreation. He was an avid skier as well as a ski instructor. Running, softball and golf were often filling his weekends. He loved music with a passion and played guitar and banjo daily.

A hometown Sumner boy, Roger and his wife Connie would meet his high school mates weekly for fantasy football and was a proud “Sporting Gnu” who would often come close to being the victor for the season with his buddies.

After his wife Connie became too ill to take care of him, he was cared for the last 2 years of his life by his son in law Michael Rasher. Roger loved going on adventures with Mike, always pointing out the view of “his mountain” as they drove through the Rainier Valley as well as singing, listening to his music, and spending time with the grandkids.

Roger passed away surrounded by family peacefully at home on September 1st, 2020. He will be missed greatly but we know he is singing and dancing in heaven with Connie, Kelsey, and his family.
