Obituary of Elizabeth Haverlock

Elizabeth Haverlock was born April 7, 1936 in Belfield, North Dakota to John Haverlock and Josephine (nee Wozniak) and grew up on a farm with her large family, of which she was the eldest daughter. She stopped going to school after 8th grade to help care for her family but was later able to complete formal schooling with her GED. In her adult life she moved between Fargo, ND, Barstow, CA and Tacoma and Fircrest, WA. She resided in the Cottages Memory Care for the last 10 months of her life.

Her father and grandparents were Ukrainian immigrants and her heritage was very important to her. She was known in the family as the one who knew how best to make pedaheh, second only to her mother. She passed on many Ukrainian recipes and traditions to her family who do their best to maintain the traditions and culinary legacy of the family. She was a single mother who worked many jobs including dry cleaning and house cleaning throughout her life to caring for her children.

She loved spending time with her family and could often be found playing cards well into the night. Many remember her as being a “hoot” and a jokester. She had an enormous sweet tooth and would sneak brownies and cookies in the middle of the night, leaving crumbs as a telltale sign. Animals were a source of joy for her and she especially loved her cat Sarah and her granddogs Abby and Riley. Her favorite color was red.

Elizabeth passed on into the arms of God on September 10, 2020. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Randy) Miller and Sherry (John) Schmoll, her grandchildren Ralph Nunes, Bridgette Nunes, and Shannon (Chris) Schmoll, her great grandchildren Melanie, Gabriella, Kinsley, Oliver, Alexia, Kaylie, Jaecee, Anthony, Veda, and Thora, and her great-great grandchild Aiyanna. She is also survived by her siblings Ken, Marvin, Eddie, Jeanette, Dorothy, Gladys, and Judy. She is preceded in death by her siblings Sam, Walt, and Rose. She will be dearly missed.

A service will be held with family in Barstow, California on April 7, 2021, time to be announced.
