Obituary of Carolyn May Faulkner Foos

CAROLYN MAY FOOS

Carolyn (Kay) May Faulkner Foos was born in Valley, WA on 5 July 1924 and passed away on 10 August 2020 In University Place, WA at the age of 96. Kay still recognized, and interacted with, her family in her final days and died peacefully at her assisted living apartment. While we’re sad she’s no longer with us, we are relieved to know she is in a better place.

Kay is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marta & Ron Tybon, her daughters, Avis Quinlan and Leah McIntyre, daughter-in-law, Leslie Foos, 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Kay survived the death of her husband, John Foos, Sr. of 49 years and her son, John Foos, Jr.

Kay lived a long and fulfilling and accomplished life. She grew up in Valley, Washington and went to Washington State University. Kay always supported and loved her Cougars. She majored in voice and went to New York City for a short time to sing, but came home to help her mother take care of her father, when he fell ill. She was a professional singer, who expressed her love for God through her singing. She sang in two professional church organizations in Portland, Oregon and taught music in a grade school. She sang in operas and operettas, and at weddings and funerals. She taught herself how to play the piano and then taught voice in her home. When the family moved to Enumclaw, Washington, she continued to sing at a neighborhood church every Sunday morning. Carolyn taught grade school in both the Enumclaw and White River school districts and also briefly served as a Vice Principal.

Kay introduced a Cultural Arts Day at two grade schools, started the Enumclaw Arts Commission, and was instrumental in obtaining funding for the new auditorium at the Enumclaw HS.

Kay was married to John for 49 years. Kay helped put him through college on the GI bill by working as a telephone operator. They moved to Portland, Oregon, where they lived until 1967, at which time they relocated to Enumclaw, Washington. Kay lived in Puyallup, Washington after John’s death and later in University Place Washington, where she continued to sing in the church choir. Kay was an amazing woman, who always had a kind word and smile for everyone.

The family will hold a private service and plans a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date. In memory of Kay, memorial contributions can be made to the Laverna E.
