Obituary of John Edgar Upchurch

John (Chip) Edgar Upchurch, age 54, of Eatonville, Washington, passed away on June 11, 2020. He was born in Stuttgart, Germany, to John and Marcia Upchurch.

Following graduation from Bethel High School in Graham, Washington, Chip pursued his education at Pacific Lutheran University, earning a B.A. degree in Communication Arts. His career included teaching in the Bethel School District for 16 years. He loved teaching and guided his students in life as well as the classroom. He also enjoyed coaching, working on his property, and woodworking.

Chip is survived by his wife Lisa; they met at Pacific Lutheran University and were married 28 years. He is also survived by his children, Tess Upchurch and Evan Upchurch. In addition, Chip is survived by his father John Upchurch (Jannett Bennett), sister Lisa Halsan (Starr Williams), and sister Tamra Karuna. Chip’s sense of humor and generous spirit will be dearly missed.

In lieu of flowers, the Upchurch family would like to honor Chip by giving to a cause near to his heart, the Liberty Middle School ASB and Athletics Fund.  Over the past 10 years, Chip was both ASB Advisor and Athletic Coordinator and devoted his time to several clubs and athletic teams.  Donations can be made in his honor at the following GoFundMe and will be donated to the students of Liberty when school resumes this fall.
