Obituary of Mary E Hagel

Mary E. Hagel entered the gates of heaven on Monday, Feb. 24th after battling pancreatic cancer. She will be missed by so many people that she touched throughout her life - from kindergarten parents, to people from her church, to neighbors, and dear family and friends. She was a pillar of strength among the many people that had the honor of knowing her, always willing to help with whatever was needed.

Mary grew up in a loving Christian home in Yakima, WA, along with her four wonderful siblings. She attended Washington State University and ultimately graduated from Central Washington University. She lived briefly in Portland, OR, but made her home in the North End of Tacoma for over 45 years. Throughout those years she taught kindergarten at First Presbyterian Church School and enjoyed leading the Women's Bible Study. After she retired, she loved spending time with her two daughters and three grandchildren and was supportive in every aspect from helping with the babies to watching their various sporting events.

Even after Mary's diagnosis she remained strong in her faith and continued to be God’s witness. She is dancing in heaven with loved ones that left the earth before her. One of her favorite Bible verses is Matthew 6:33 - “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Mary is survived by her two daughters and their spouses, Angela Tutton (Jim Tutton) and Erica Kenney (Eric Kenney), her grandchildren - Jason, Kaylin, and Ellis, her siblings and their wonderful families - David Roberts, Beverly Kent, and Timothy Roberts. Her parents, Norman and Helen Mae, as well as her brother Jack preceded her in death.

The Celebration of Life service will be this Monday, March 2nd at 5:00pm at First Presbyterian Church, 20 Tacoma Ave South, Tacoma, WA. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to the First Presbyterian Church Preschool. (Same address as the service.)
