Obituary of Ernest Guy Searcy

Ernest Guy Searcy, age 48 departed this life on January 14, 2020 in Washington State.

Ernest was born on January 4, 1972 in Trenton, New Jersey to Claser M. Searcy and Ernest Guy Searcy Sr. He was the only son and had one sister. As a young child, the family lived in New Jersey and Columbus, Ohio but ultimately returned to Fayetteville and resided there.

Ernest attended school in Fayetteville, North Carolina and graduated from Terry Sanford High School. He worked in the areas of home health, local TV station, home repair and other fields. He decided to go to Job Corps in Kittrell, North Carolina, where he studied building maintenance. While in job corps he met Shalonda Nelson. They had a daughter together and named her Diamond Searcy. His daughter was truly a diamond in his eyes.

As a child it was evident that he was a natural artist. He had a passion for music and dancing. With no formal training, he would create dance routines and could make all kinds of beat box sounds. Music was a very important part of him. He enjoyed rap/hip hop music and studied it until it became a part of him. At a young age, Ernest used to do everything so fast. His grandmother Jessie Bell noticed and began calling him "Speedy" and the nickname stuck with him his whole life.

Ernest married Mary McNeil in 2004, they were married for over 15 years. They moved to Tacoma, Washington to be close to Ernest's daughter. He had an opportunity to return to Maryland in 2018 where he resided with his sister Jerrie Moore and his nephew Jerome for a year. Since the passing of his mother, they had not been together as a family in the same house. It was a blessing that Ernest had an opportunity to celebrate holidays and birthdays with his sister, nephew and cousins for one last time.

Ernest returned to Tacoma in the spring of 2019. His one desire was to unite with his daughter, Diamond. While there, he enrolled in class and completed it. He became a licensed forklift operator. He continued writing and recording music as he worked to get a fresh start in life.

His untimely death has left family and friends bereaved with heavy hearts. As we search for reasons or try to question why, we all know that God knows all things. There's always the thought of could I have done more or said more to change the circumstances, but truly no one knows the day nor the hour.

Ernest got his wish, his heart's desire. His daughter contacted him by letter. It was God's will for Ernest to attend his daughter's church. They talked and fellowshipped. Ernest was at peace and was fulfilled at knowing that he had such a beautiful, strong, smart & charismatic daughter. He also knew that her mother had raised her well. His life was complete. Ernest was such a humble and kind soul. His ability to spread endless laughter and lighten any mood will forever be remembered by all. He cared about others and how things affected people.

So to Ernest we say, "you have ran your race on this earth." We love and need you and miss you so much. But know that God needed you more.

REST WELL OUR BELOVED SON

Thessalonians 2:16-17 "Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you are also doing."
