Obituary of Lawrence Donald Loete

Lawrence Donald Loete, born November 25, 1950, passed away January 12, 2020, following a massive stroke.

Larry was born in Tacoma, WA and grew up in Spanaway, WA.  He graduated from Bethel High School in 1969.  He also attended WSU and Western University. Larry often told stories of his younger years and all the fun he had with his friends and cousins. He enjoyed being a part of the Spanaway/Parkland community and playing softball with his friends.  Larry loved sports his entire life. He also loved to camp, fish, hunt, and go clam digging. He had many good memories and loved reminiscing about all of them. Larry was a skilled contractor and carpenter and he loved building houses more than anything. Larry made friends in the construction business and they became extended family. He liked to keep tabs on what all of his subcontractors were up to, how their families were, how business was, and he looked forward to catching up with them and sharing a story or two.

Larry was liked by everyone who came into contact with him. He had the biggest heart and a compassionate nature. He would never hesitate to do what he could for his friends and family. Larry never held a grudge and he was a true friend without limitations. Larry was a great storyteller and was really good at embellishing all aspects to get a laugh.  He loved his family and he was most proud of his girls. Through thick and thin, it was always the three of them. Larry never tired of watching his girls play sports and coaching whenever a coach was needed. He was a proud father and grandfather who never wavered in his love and support for them. Larry and his girls spent their best times on jobsites pouring concrete, framing houses, eating lunch from a thermos cooler or driving around looking for lots to build on. Larry always made a memorable impression on all of the girls’ friends.

Larry enjoyed going to church from the time he was in Sunday school. He loved making it to Sunday service and men’s bible study. He never missed an opportunity to help out in the church with his carpentry skills or donating food to their food bank.

Larry’s family would like to express their sincere thanks to all the family and countless friends for their never-ending love, prayers and support, including the staff in the Neuroscience ICU at Tacoma General Hospital for Larry’s exceptional care.  They also express their sincere thanks to Tacoma General Hospital Chaplain Tommy for spending time with Larry during his final hours bringing him prayers, scripture, and peace. Kasey and Laurie wish a special thanks to Michael Stafford of San Diego, CA for his unconditional love, comfort, care and support of themselves and Larry from the time he arrived at the hospital.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Lorraine Loete. He is survived by daughters Kasey Loete (Chris) and Laurie Loete, grandsons Brayden and Keaton Katzer and brother Steve Loete of Olympia, nieces Taylor and Samantha, nephew Joshua and many beloved cousins.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Larry at a later date for all of his friends and loved ones.
