Obituary of Claudia Kress Lorberau

Claudia Kress (Lochridge) Lorberau

Born May 19, 1933 (Las Vegas, Nevada) and passed peacefully October 30, 2019 (Lakewood, Washington), age 86.  Married 54 years to Carl Ernest Lorberau (deceased).  Predeceased by her parents Gordon Smith Lochridge and Irma Kress Lochridge, brothers Dr. Gordon Kress Lochridge and William Kress Lochridge.

Survived by sister Blanchella Kress Casey Jr.; children Hidee, Teresa, Jon (Karen), Mark (Nikki), Kevin (Virginia), and Shane Lorberau; grandchildren Kelsey, Mitchell, Scotty, Danae, and Marissa.  Also survived by sister-in-laws Joann Lorberau (Texas), Diana Lochridge (Texas), and Barbara Fanos (Wyoming), along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Mom also kept in touch with her best friend since childhood, Graham Sweet (Portland, Oregon).

Mom was the oldest of four children (two boys and two girls) born to Gordon and Irma Lochridge.  She graduated from Grant High School in Portland, Oregon and her first paying job was as a soda jerk at age 14.  Mom served in the Air Force as a Clerk Typist and Cryptographer between 1951-1952 where she met her future husband, Carl Ernest Lorberau.  We moved frequently as an Air Force family with assignments in Japan, Germany, Spain, Maine, New Jersey, New York, Spokane, and dad’s retirement base of McChord Air Force Base in Washington.  The family moved into their home in Lakewood 48 years ago and many neighbors became lifelong friends of the family.

Although mom enjoyed sewing, socializing, garden club, and the many stray cats that made their way into our home, her main priority was always her children.  She always told us kids that all that she ever wanted in life was to be a mom.  Mom had the patience of a saint, a kind and loving heart, and never said a bad word about anyone.  She was a wonderful mother and grandma who will be greatly missed by her family and never forgotten.

The family would like to sincerely thank Hidee for being mom’s caregiver for the past 2-1/2 years.  We would also like to thank Franciscan Hospice in University Place for caring for our mom in her final days.

Mom’s service will be held at Tahoma National Military Cemetery located at 18600 SE 240th St in Kent, WA at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 15, 2019 where she will be laid to rest with our dad.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.  Rest in peace mom.
