Obituary of Bertha T Anderson

Bertha T Anderson passed away Oct. 19, 2019 in Tacoma, Washington.  She was born Nov. 7, 1917 in Havre, MT to Elida and John Axel Dahlstrom.  Her father passed away in the Spanish Influenza epidemic before Bertha was a year old.  Her mother remarried, to Kenneth MacAuley who adopted both Bertha and her older brother Carl.

Bertha had five siblings, Carl, Margaret, Dorothy, Malcom and Kenneth as well as a sister Marion who died in infancy.  Bertha grew up during the great Depression but always recalled good times with her friends and neighbors on the Yelm prairie. After graduating from high school, she worked at Wolf’s store in Roy before attending business college and working at Labor and Industries in Olympia.  She married Henry Anderson in 1950 and they made their home in south Tacoma.  They were married for more than 62 years, until his death in 2013.

Bertha is survived by her brother Kenneth (Donna), her daughters Karen and Kristine (Richard Hamm), her grandson Soren Hamm, and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.  She was an attentive listener, generous helper, ardent supporter and loved celebrating others’ accomplishments. She loved reading, camping, travel and the family pets Gus the beagle, cats Maui, Kitten and Raoul, and Mario, the cockatiel who survives her.

We give special thanks for her loving caregivers over the years; Nancy Galligan, Aimee and Michelle Hernandez, Elena Molina, Maria Cario and Natsuko Reed.

Bertha was a member of United Lutheran Church, located at 1231 S 76th St, Tacoma, WA 98408. Her memorial service will be held there on Saturday, November 9th at 2:30 pm.  Memorials may be made to the church, or other charity.
