Obituary of Judy Marie Foster-Johnson

Judy Marie Foster-Johnson

1942 - 2019

Judy passed away peacefully at the age of 77 on October 24th, 2019 at The Village Assisted Living facility in Tacoma, WA.

Judy was brought into this world by Myriam Colwell on Friday, February 13th, 1942. She was a strong-willed child, filled with determination to succeed above all obstacles. As the oldest of 5, Judy took pride in the role of big sister and advisor to her siblings Kris, Verne, Teresia and Debi, and loved helping them grow up. She was especially pleased when they blessed her with many nieces and nephews.

Judy and her first husband, Russ Foster had 3 sons: Rusty (Fluff), Jim (Kim) and Dan (Amy). She was fiercely proud of her sons and cherished the relationships she had with them and later, their spouses as well. While married to her second husband Tom Johnson, she was thrilled to become a grandparent to 6 grandchildren; Sam, Jared, Lourina, Zachery, Kyle and Cathyrne. More recently she was honored to be a great grandma to Jettrin, Declan, and Kaiden. She embraced motherhood and grand motherhood wholeheartedly, and always had words of advice, a hug, a hot meal, or just an ear to listen whenever needed.

Judy had a great love for the friends in her life. She embraced her relationships with an open heart and often referred to her friends as her family. To this day, many of us are confused as to who is actually related by blood and who is not, but to Judy that never really mattered. Thankfully, she passed this trait on to many in her family, for which we will always be grateful.

After receiving her Associates degree, Judy discovered she had a true talent for sales and business management. She purchased a Safeguard Business Systems distributorship in 1979 and was very successful in supplying local businesses with bookkeeping and file management systems. She became a top-level producer in the Northwest, and was honored to earn the country-wide “Distributorship of the Year” award in the late ‘80’s. Being a business owner for 35 years truly suited Judy, given her aforementioned strong will and determination. This part of her life, too, was all about relationships with family and “non-family” family that she could bring along on her successful journey.

Judy is preceded in death by her mother, Myriam Colwell; step-father, Verne Colwell Sr.; brother, Verne Colwell Jr.; and second husband, Tom Johnson.
