Obituary of Jerry Arnold Hasfjord

Jerry Arnold Hasfjord, 82 years old, passed away on July 11, 2019 at 1:05am at Hospice House after receiving diagnosis of Leukemia three months earlier.

Jerry was born December 28, 1936 in Tacoma, Washington to Arnold and Nancy Hasfjord.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Jennifer, his son Todd Hasfjord (Nga), daughter Kelley Hasfjord-Walker (Dave) and 5 grandchildren, Josh (great grandson Jaxyn), Alex, Jason, Zach and Abbey. He is also survived by his brother Harold Hasfjord (Karen), sister Beverly Richter, and many nieces and nephews.

Jerry was a longtime resident of Tacoma. He graduated from Clover Park High School in 1956.  He valued his experience coaching little league football, spending time at Lakewood Ice Arena where a lifelong community of friends began forming and volunteering at Lakewood Fire Department before joining OTS in the National Guard in 1958. He joined the Tacoma Fire Department in 1961 and served the people of Tacoma/Pierce County for 37 years.

Jerry’s kids are immensely grateful for their happy and adventurous young years growing up on their 20 acre farm in Eatonville where they were able to play and ride his motorcycle and her horse in the wide open spaces. Jerry worked a thriving landscape business while transforming the Eatonville property and working on the Fire Department. Jerry also played hard. A few of his interests and accomplishments over the years were scuba diving, sailing, traveling in the RV and overseas and mountain climbing. He climbed Mt Rainier 30 times and climbed Mt McKinley(Denali) in 1974 earning an Emmy for a film with Exploration Northwest.

Jerry is remembered for his full life. A life full of hard work and hard play, taking advantage of pretty much everything the Pacific Northwest had to offer.

There will be a Celebration Of Life on July 20, 2019 from 1pm to 5pm at the Tacoma Firefighters Hall 1109 South 50th Street.
