Obituary of Suzanne Marie Jahns

Suzanne Marie (Roby) Jahns was born on January 16, 1947 to John and Francis Roby of Mt. Vernon, Washington.  She spent her childhood in Burien/White Center before attending Whitworth College in Spokane where she met and married her first husband, Harold Nesland Jr.  Together they had two children, Harold III and Alicia.  She worked as a University of Washington Police dispatcher, a carpenter (one of the first female carpenters in the Kitsap County) and an Executive Assistant during her early adulthood.  In the mid-1980’s Suzanne went back to college to obtain a dual Master’s Degrees in Business Administration and Adult Education.  She found joy and fulfillment as a teacher instructing technology and business for eight years at Kings High School and one year at Bainbridge Island High School in the 1990’s before assuming the role of “road warrior” instructor traveling across the US teaching adult technology seminars.  Karl Jahns and Suzanne married in 1997 and continuing in her life of adventure they bought a bowling center in which they remodeled and became a center of family entertainment in a small Western Washington town.  During their “retirement” Karl and Suzanne remodeled and sold several condos as well as built four houses in Wenatchee where Suzanne also was facility for a year at Wenatchee Valley College. The last eleven years of her life, while marred with battling cancer and Lupus, were filled with unsurpassed joy in family, friends, volunteering, traveling and adventuring around the US and world.  She finally succumbed to complications of metastasized breast cancer with her family at her bedside in the evening of July 8, 2019.

Suzanne is survived by a loving husband, two children, six grandchildren, two brothers and a sister.  She was preceded in passing by her parents alongside of whom her ashes will be scattered.  A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at Marine View Presbyterian Church, 8469 E Side Dr NE; Tacoma, Washington 98422 on July 20th at 3 pm followed by a light reception and fellowship of family and friends.
