Obituary of Randy Lyyski

Gone Fishing

After a tough year of illnesses and four hospitalizations, Randall Arne Lyyski a.k.a. Randy passed away on Friday, June 21, 2019 at the age of 76.

He was born February 9, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan and grew up in Alston in upper Michigan. Shortly after high school, Randy and a  friend, joined the United States Air Force. He served during the Viet Nam era and was stationed in the Phillipines and then sent to McChord AFB. During his time at McChord, he met Sharon Walters. They were married for twenty years and had four children together: Loreen (Sean), Cindy (Mike), Brian (Billie Jo), and Ryan (Bobette). After a divorce, he met and married Pamela Moya who had two children: Marcella (Frank) and Anthony. Randy and Pam were married for 32 years before he passed away. Together they had ten grandchildren and he enjoyed the annual camping trip with his kids and grandkids. When the grandchildren were small, there were the Easter egg hunts and Christmas cookie decorating. There were the annual fishing trips out of Westport. Then there was the planning for the fall hunting trips with dreams of getting the"big" one.

After the military, Randy worked and retired from SuperValu (West Coast Grocery) where he worked for 33 years. He belonged to the local Moose Lodge and worked the Bingo nights, was a member of the Teamsters Retiree's Club, and was active with a local Good Sam RV chapter. Randy and Pam enjoyed taking trips in their RV and were able to visit many states in this beautiful nation. With trips as far away as Alaska, Michigan, and New Mexico, not to mention the local areas, with his favorite place being the ocean where the fishing and clam digging were enjoyed. It is said that he is now fishing with his buddies who passed before him: Dale, Dwayne, Ted, and Mel.

Randy was not the biggest fan of the kitchen but could whip up the best strawberry rhubarb pie, and the tastiest chocolate chip cookies, as well as all the Christmas cookies for the holiday season, and a savory Finnish pasty. He was a kind man who loved to tease everyone he met.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Arne and Helvie and a younger brother Dale. He is survived by his sister, Faye McDonald and brother, Daniel Lyyski A celebration of life will be schedule in the near future.
