Obituary of Edward McGruder

Edward McGruder passed away on Monday, June 17, 2019. He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Mattie McGruder, and three sons.

Edward was born in Comer, Alabama to Mary Emma McGruder on July 15th, 1936. He was the youngest child of seven. His parents and his siblings preceded him in death.

He graduated from Parker High School in Birmingham, AL. He was fortunate to work for Capital Airlines (later United Airlines) from 1954-2000, a career that he took pride in.  He embarked on a beautiful journey as he married Mattie Ruth Toney in 1955. United Airlines took him from Alabama to Portland in 1961; in 1973, he moved to Washington State where he was able to build deep roots and raise his family. He was blessed to have three sons; Andrew (Rebecca), Chris (Barbara), and Gregory (Stephanie). He enjoyed his eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. His family mourns his passing.

Eddie was a hard worker who instilled in each of his sons what it meant to strive for excellence. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Eddie loved a lot of different things like Science Fiction, Westerns, and Boxing. He was an athlete who was a fantastic bowler and loved to play golf. This habit of openness to new experiences and joy were passed on to his family.

A memorial service will be held at Foster Tukwila Presbyterian Church on July 21, 2019 at 12 PM. Foster Tukwila Presbyterian Church is located at 14401 56th Avenue South, Tukwila, WA, 98168.
