Obituary of Martha Carolyn Arbogast

M. Carolyn Arbogast, born to Stephen and Martha Hutkoi, on November 8th, 1935. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior on April 5th, 2019. Carolyn passed away in her home, surrounded by family. Carolyn is survived by her husband of 60 years, Donald, daughter(s) Autumn, Mari and Anne, son in-law Tom, grandchildren Krystle and Brittney, Bill and Mat and great grandchildren Blake, Andrew, Simon, Raegan, Peyton and Maddie. She was preceded in death by daughter Donna Lee in 2009. Carolyn attended Cloverpark High School, graduated from Pacific Lutheran University with a degree in Education in 1960 and married Donald on July 12th, 1959.

Carolyn was a devoted Christian and routinely touched lives in her journeys. She gave her time and energy to the community and people in need. She demonstrated kindness and compassion to all. After retirement from Qwest, Carolyn returned to college and earned a counseling degree. Her passion to give back to her community took her to the Tacoma Salvation Army where she volunteered for 17 years and counseled those who needed someone to listen. She was especially passionate about 'The Giving Tree' holiday gift program for children. Carolyn took the reins and grew this program in the Pierce County area from 7 businesses to over 150 participating businesses. Carolyn was an avid gardener and enjoyed giving to others. She took many floral arranging courses and would gift beautiful flower bouquets to neighbors, friends and family. Keeping count of how many bouquets she could give over the season, her numbers were often over 150 arrangements!

Carolyn spent her lifetime sharing God's love and grace with every encounter. She was passionate about helping others in need and creating hope where there was none. She taught forgiveness in everything. ln her later years, Carolyn was very active in The Promise Box Ministry and was devoted to its mission and message. She gifted the beautiful, handmade boxes to anyone; anywhere she made a connection, sharing the message of hope and the love of Jesus Christ. Carolyn raised her family demonstrating an unbreakable Faith in Jesus Christ and undying commitment to her marriage, fondly referring to Don as her "Prince among men". Their motto has and will always be, "Each for the other, Both for God".
