Obituary of Ronald Benjamin Ellwein

Ronald Benjamin Ellwein

September 23, 1949 – April 9,2019

Ron lost his battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig ’s disease) on Tuesday, April 9, 2019.  He was loved by all and leaves behind his mother Opal A. Ellwein, his brother James E (Tina) Ellwein, two nephews, Bryan Albright and Daniel Ellwein, his Chihuahua Rocky and many cousins.  He is preceded in death by his father Bill Ellwein and many Aunts and Uncles.

He graduated from Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma, Washington in 1967 and from there he enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1967 to 1971.  Ron was stationed on the USS Coral Sea Air Craft Carrier where he served with his crew in the ordinance division making bombs and loading them onto air planes.  Ron made Tacoma his home for the next 48 years and after he was honorably discharged from the Navy, he enrolled in art classes at Clover Park Vocational Technical School.  Ron was employed by Boeing Co as a technical illustrator and retired after 30 years of dedicated service.  During his employment with Boeing he became well known for his leadership skills and he drew the illustrations for the mechanics to install the jet engines.   He was an accomplished artist and loved to draw and drew many personal pictures in pen, pencil and oils.   He loved to ride his motorcycle (dirt bike) and rode in the Tacoma Trail Cruisers Poker Run in Capital Forest on several occasions.  Ron had a great sense of humor and we all would laugh at his antics.

Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Good Shephard Lutheran Church located at 140 East 56th St., at 11:00 in Tacoma, Washington.

Arrangements by Edwards Memorial, Funerals Homes, Chapels and Crematories.
