Obituary of Donald Arthur Turya

Donald Arthur Turya (1923-2019)

Donald Arthur Turya passed peacefully at the family home on March 10, 2019. He was 95 years old. He was born August 19th, 1923 in Centralia, WA to John F Turya and Winnifired C (Swisher) Turya.

Don spend his growing up years in Centralia going to the Edison School and graduating at the age of 17 from Centralia High School with the “Class Of 41”

He was inducted into the Army in January 1943. Assigned to the 11th Airborne Co A 188th Parachute Infantry Regiment. He saw action in the Pacific Theatre in New Guinea, Southern Philippines and Luzon. Don was discharged from the Army on the 30th of December 1945.

After the service, He went to Centralia Junior College and to the College of Puget Sound. He spent his lifetime career in the field of education. He was a teacher for 36 years at the high school and junior high level. His hobbies inclucded golfing, hiking, camping, fishing, and running. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers,sister, his daughter Diane, and his wife Charlotte. Survivors include his son David, at the family home in University Place, grandson Nickolas Finley, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Interment will be On March 26th at 2:00 pm at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent WA. On March 30th Celebration of Life gathering at family home in University Place, WA.
