Obituary of Janet Cornelius Dressel

Janet was born on a wheat farm in Steptoe, Washington on August 4th, 1915 the 2nd child of Asper and Vernon Cornelius. Janet and her brother and sister were children of the depression and the Second World War. She grew up in the midst of a large and thriving family of farmers and business people in Eastern Washington. Her parents fought to survive the depression and to educate their children. Her mother moved to Washington State University and ran a rooming house so the children could have a chance at education, while her father stayed on the family farm. In that way, Janet attended Washington State University for several years, and joined the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, which was an important milestone period in her life. Janet moved to the west side of the cascades and lived and worked in Seattle and Burien. Settling in Kent where she lived for 40 years, she operated the Associated Credit Exchange located in Burien and later sold real estate. Janet was a volunteer for the Kent Senior Center for many years and was very popular, getting several awards. She loved traveling with her good friend Gladys Beem and taking care of her neighbor’s two little girls. Janet was predeceased by her husband, Robert Dressel, and her brother Vernon Cornelius. Those of us who treasure her memory include her two sons, Mike Dressel (Sue) of Littleton Co. and Tod Dressel (Nancy) of Gig Harbor Wa., and her sister Evelyn Brooks of San Diego Ca. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Jenn Martin (Dante) of Seattle, Stephanie Gowing (Todd) of Tacoma, Adam Dressel of Kansas and Daniel Dressel of Colorado and several nieces and nephews.
